It is with undisguised pride and great joy that we announce that Professor Franciszek Rozpłoch, eminent physicist, long-time President and one of the founding fathers of the Polish Coal Society, is celebrating his 90th birthday.
Professor Franciszek Rozpłoch is a fundamental figure in Polish coal science. In 1989, he led the initiative group that established our Society, and from 1997 to 2005, he dedicatedly served as its President, setting the direction for the organization's development and integrating the scientific community. To mark this special anniversary, the Nicolaus Copernicus University Institute of Physics and the Toruń Branch of the Polish Physical Society cordially invite you to a gala meeting to be held on April 9, 2026 (Thursday), at 12:30 PM, in the Aleksander Jabłoński Auditorium at the Nicolaus Copernicus University Institute of Physics. The highlight of the celebration will be the Thursday Colloquium, during which Dr. Anna Ilnicka, a professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University, will deliver a lecture entitled "90 Roses for the 90th Anniversary," devoted to graphene roses.
Professor Franciszek Rozpłoch, born on March 29, 1936, is a figure with an exceptionally impressive scientific and organizational achievements. As an eminent physicist, he is the author of over 200 scientific publications, the supervisor of seven doctoral dissertations, and a valued reviewer in dozens of habilitation and professorship proceedings. He also utilized his extensive experience as an academic leader, serving as Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń from 1999 to 2002, and as a full professor at the Kujawska University of Applied Sciences in Włocławek.
His contribution to the development of the scientific community is also extremely significant – for years he was an active member of the governing bodies of the Polish Physical Society and the Polish Carbon Society. For the members of our Society, Professor remains not only an undisputed authority, but above all a mentor and a kind colleague whose passion for studying carbon structures inspired generations of researchers.
